#7 Seb Morris – P13
#8 Alex Fontana – P15
#9 Sandy Stuvik – P17
All three Status GP3 drivers completed an incident free Race 1 at Yas Marina Circuit with rookie Seb Morris making up ten places in a mature race, finishing in 13th place. Alex Fontana and Sandy Stuvik both made progress from their starting positions taking the chequered flag in 15th and 17th place respectively.
#7 Seb Morris “It’s a real shame that we had the issue in qualifying as I think it could have been a really good weekend. The team couldn’t do anything about the issue with the sealed part in qualifying but our pace was proven in the race today and I don’t think I could have done any more. I tried my best and if there had been a few more laps maybe the top ten was achievable. With a good qualifying a top eight finish was within reach and at least we have shown a progression and that we have the pace here this weekend.”
#8 Alex Fontana “My start was not amazing and Sandy came past me. Many people cut the chicane due to an accident and I lost positions that I couldn’t gain back which was not amazing. My pace looked good especially after half of the race and I made a few overtakes. I was faster than the guys in front but the safety cars helped those who did not look after their tyres so I couldn’t do much at the end as usual. I’m quite happy with the setup that we have and if I can get away well and everybody respects the track limits we can have a good race tomorrow.”
#9 Sandy Stuvik “I had a good start and made up a few positions but from about lap four or five I had understeer. I struggled to keep the pace up and carry enough speed into corners which compromised my exits and created a snowball effect. Hopefully we can resolve this for Race 2.”
